Westminster Presbyterian Church is a fully open, affirming, and inclusive church that has a long history of support for the LGBTQIA+ community. We are committed to being a place of welcome and radical hospitality to all, regardless of one’s gender (or expression thereof), sexual orientation, relationship status, or family arrangement. It is important to us, as a progressive Christian community, that we name the ways in which the Christian church has historically marginalized and harmed the LGBTQIA+ community, that we take active steps to repent, and ensure a welcoming space for all members of the body of Christ. We affirm and support the inherent, sacred worth of all LGBTQIA+ persons and their gifts for leadership in the life of the church and the world.
Westminster became a member of The Covenant Network of Presbyterians in January 2001. The Covenant Network sees its mission “to strengthen the church of Jesus Christ, with the help of God’s grace.” They see themselves “called to achieve this goal by furthering the inclusion of LGBTQ persons, and by working for the unity of the PC(USA).”
Westminster became a member of More Light Presbyterians in September 2013. More Light Presbyterians sees its mission as to: “Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.”
